Legislative Alert

Dear Alliance Members:

One of the Alliance’s most important functions and member benefits is our monitoring of hundreds of legislative introductions that could impact life insurers – especially fraternals – in all 50 states. The following is a summary of the most significant measures to be enacted to date. Please note that this is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all bills that have been enacted to date. Members are encouraged to have their staff or retained compliance professional carefully review all enacted measures in the states where you are licensed to ensure compliance with these new laws. State Department of Insurance web sites are often the best source for this type of information.

Many state legislatures have adjourned for the 2019 legislative session. Others will follow suit in the coming months. The Alliance will continue to periodically publish these Legislative Alerts as more sessions close and more bills are enacted. Finally, please note that several of these bills enacted new statutory provisions. The state’s online statutory database may not have been updated to properly reflect these new statutes. Please contact advocacy@fraternalalliance.org with questions.
