Advocacy Updates – February 2020

South Dakota

Alliance COO Allison Koppel joined NAFIC and NAIFA at various events around the Capitol in early February to raise awareness of fraternals and the financial, benevolent and charitable services Alliance members provide in this state – home to over 100,000 fraternal members and close to 300 chapters.

Alliance COO Allison Koppel and financial representatives from Catholic United Financial, Modern Woodmen, Thrivent Financial and others converge at the capitol in Pierre, SD to raise awareness of fraternals in the state.


Continuing to make state legislators aware of the contributions of fraternals in Colorado in the wake of a threat to the fraternal premium tax exemption, the Alliance sent another contingent to the state capitol to meet with elected officials in late January. The Alliance staff and Advocacy & Policy Committee will remain actively engaged in this issue and support additional pro-active outreach to legislators to tell the positive fraternal story. Fraternal leaders descend on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC during Alliance Executive Summit to raise awareness of fraternal Congressional Resolutions H CON RES 27 and S CON RES 9.  So far 79 House Co-Sponsors Have Signed and 8 Senate Co-Sponsors Have Signed.

The Board of Directors invites its top leaders to provide feedback regarding the CEO staffing transition and new direction. Societies will be provided a stipend to attend this meeting.
