Advocacy Activities – May 2020

The Alliance’s Advocacy & Policy Committee met by phone on April 16 to discuss a variety of topics. Most of the discussion was COVID-related and how the crisis is currently impacting fraternals and the potential impact on the sector in the future. Drew Goesl from the Alliance’s federal lobbying firm Capitol Counsel provided an update on legislative activity in DC and how the Alliance and members can remain connected with legislators when meetings and events are being conducted virtually for now. The Alliance and its lobbying firm will be unveiling a plan soon to help societies invite members of Congress to impactful fraternal events later in the year when social distancing rules are hopefully relaxed.

Local Lodge Data and COVID Relief

The Alliance is currently collecting members’ Local Lodge data. This important information is used to inform legislators, regulators and other important audiences about the vast contributions fraternals provide to their communities. Thanks to Ladies Pennsylvania Slovak Catholic Union for being the first to submit! We are also asking societies to keep track of any COVID-19 Aid that your organization is providing to members and communities in 2020. This cumulative data will be used for advocacy purposes to demonstrate the significant impact of fraternals during times of crisis. Please email info@fraternalalliance.org with any COVID-related relief stories we can feature in the June Advocacy Plus newsletter.
