Advocacy Activities – August 2020

A new task force has been created to help the Alliance address any state issues that may emerge in the coming years.  This task force has met twice by phone with staff to create a charter, identify leaders, and to develop a framework for cataloging fraternal champions and other important state statistics.  Thank you to Sharon Brosnan of Thrivent, and Tim Saccoccia of Knights of Columbus, for volunteering to serve as co-chairs of this important task force.

August 26: Direct Elections – Fraternal Governance

11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. CST

Learn from Alliance retained counsel Todd Martin from Stinson how this method of governance — the direct election structure — can result in more engagement and better decision-making at your society. Topics will include:

  • History of society governance

  • Societies that have recently moved to direct elections

  • Pros and cons of direct elections including how recent crises affect governance

  • An interactive audience session will also provide some context and perspective on this issue from other society leaders.
