Advocacy Activities – June 2021

Covid-19 Community Corps
Special thanks to our societies that are early adopters of the Alliance’s engagement with the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Covid-19 Community Corps. We are excited to share that the Alliance is now officially listed as a Community Corps partner on the HHS website! The Corps is a national effort to help our communities get back to normal by providing education on vaccination safety and access. Our fraternal executives can use their standing as trusted leaders and use their chapter systems as a means to spread the word.

COVID Corps

All Alliance members are invited to participate in the next Corps update on June 16th at 1:00 p.m. Central. This call is internal and will feature Alliance CEO Allison Koppel and Drew Goesl, our federal lobbyist, discussing the latest in activations and opportunities. You do not need to be signed on as a member of the Community Corps to participate, and questions are welcome. This is a great way to learn more and see if participating in the Community Corps is a good fit for your society. Please email Elizabeth Patel at epatel@fraternalalliance.org for call details. #LiveFraternally. (Use #LiveFraternally when posting any activities on social media about your vaccination efforts.)

Revised Bond Factors May Hurt Fraternals’ RBC – Contact Your Regulator
The years-long NAIC effort to revise the C-1 bond factors and portfolio adjustment factors is coming to a close with one last opportunity for fraternals to voice concern that these changes could suddenly lower their RBC to a troubling level. The NAIC is considering two proposals: the initial American Academy of Actuaries (Academy) plan and a newer one supplied by ACLI and Moody’s Analytics (ACLI). Your society has likely determined the impact of the Academy study which was released a few years ago. Please contact the regulator in your state of domicile as soon as possible and urge them to support the ACLI proposal which includes up-to-date data, provides more intuitive results, and is less punitive than the Academy proposal on smaller insurers like fraternals.
